Romeo & Juliet
Central Wisconsin Area Community Theater (cwACT) proudly launches its 52nd season with a powerful new staging of Romeo & Juliet, reimagined in the heart of 1880s Appalachia. Under the direction of Joe Nowinski, this fresh adaptation transforms Shakespeare’s classic tale of forbidden love into a rugged frontier drama, where the deep-seated conflict between two mountain families echoes the infamous Hatfield–McCoy feud. Set against a post-Civil War landscape of division and grief, this production explores how love can rise—and fall—amid the ruins of violence and tradition.
Live bluegrass music, performed by the Art Stevenson “Holler back Trio”, weaves throughout the show with guitar, banjo, violin, and vocal harmonies that evoke the spirit of the Appalachian hills.
